xxxxÊÓƵ the Fellowship
xxxxÊÓƵ’s Musical Pathway Fellowship was launched in 2017 with the purpose of removing barriers to the training needed to access a career in classical music performance. That purpose remains true today with the announcement of several programmatic enhancements to achieve that goal.
We are aligning with the best practices and standards in our field, promoted through Equity Arc, a Black-led umbrella organization for pathways programs.
Like most peer pathways programs nationwide, eligibility requirements have expanded to welcome students from any racial/ethnic group. We have learned that lack of access to the high-level training needed to succeed in a top-echelon collegiate program is multifaceted. Our program aims to clear barriers for students who are driven, committed, and focused on a future music career, and applicants will be asked to identify the barriers they uniquely face and address the role they can play in changing the face of classical music.
Program requirements will now include academic and performance progress expectations, a strict attendance policy, and participation in specific curricular elements of large ensemble and seminar.
All 11th and 12th grade Fellows must commit to pursuing a degree in music (performance, education, or composition) to remain in the program. These students will be enrolled in Launch, our new program designed to meet the individual needs of students ready to audition for music school.
Scholarship levels are determined each year based on need. Need-based scholarships are determined by family income and size of household. Additional holistic support available to those who qualify.
The program will continue to offer specialized mentorship to help students navigate the barriers they may face on their pathways to studying music at the collegiate level and competing for a top-echelon music career.
As part of xxxxÊÓƵ’s and MPF’s commitment to advancing a more inclusive future of classical music, Musical Pathway Fellows specifically – and Academy students more generally – will continue to engage with repertoire and experiences representing a diverse collection of musical voices.
